Within the domain of religious and philosophical writings, the ancient Book of Enoch occupies a distinct position. This intriguing text, credited to the biblical figure Enoch, presents a distinctive idea — the existence of seventy shepherd angels tasked with overseeing events that impact the righteous and the people of Israel on behalf of the Lord God.
There are seventy periods foretold which tie in to certain points of history after certain numbers of these periods. From these historic points, it is possible to predict that the final period will last from around 2020 to 2060 AD. This is because the previous periods map well to historic events if the period length for each angelic term of office.
In the last twelve periods, the prophecy foretells that an angel will record more violence committed against the righteous and the people of Israel than in any of the previous periods. The last period is no exception. This sadly foretells such violence in our times.
The good news in the prophecy is that the Lord of the righteous and the people of Israel (the Lord of the sheep, in the terms used in the prophecy where the righteous and the people of Israel are characterised as the sheep) returns at the end of this time. No further angelic shepherds are given authority to preside over them. Then the judgement of these angelic shepherds will begin. Then the righteous and the people of Israel will also be judged like the division of sheep and goats foretold by Jesus Christ himself.
