Heavenly Credit

Heaven credit. At the time of writing this, there has been a global crisis over the supplies of oil and fertiliser, affecting food supplies in many areas. Many see it as a time to stock up on household food stores and non-perishables. But what are non-perishables, truthfully? Stored food takes up space, resulting in less living space, which, for many living in cities, has adverse affect on quality of life, so people naturally want to minimise waste. Much of this food won’t ever be eaten. Even the less perishable foods can attract pests and even, in dire times, thieves. It is a good time to think outside the box, at what is truly non-perishable. Kindness towards the disadvantaged gives us a kind of heavenly credit that is remarkably non-perishable. It can even go beyond the grave. It is said of worldly things: “You can’t take it with you”. A few things you can take with you, as the apostle Paul wrote: Faith, hope, and charitable love. It is a time to look out for the poorest around us, properly discerning who is genuinely needy. If food gets scarce, and we have enough for what we need, let us remember others around us, and maybe not go buying up all the most affordable food and provisions. “If I don’t do it, someone else will”, but don’t let it be you who loses their heavenly credit. Store up that credit in the heavenly realm, because you could find you do indeed take it with you.
