Religion and the Cross of Christ

Religion is primarily about putting up with something that runs counter to pleasure and self-interest such as by fasting or endurance of the restrictions of a feast by not working and by setting aside personal common day practices and activities. When a person identifies with Christ Jesus they endure a share in the suffering He endured when He was crucified. This supercedes all other religious feasts and fasts because it is the day after day suffering that satisfies the demands religious duty imposes to set aside self-interest for the sake of higher duty. We can allow the suffering endured by the Righteous Christ to affect us too as we have become bound spiritually to Christ so what affected Him affects us too. This takes the place of any feasts and fasts in the religious requirement of self denial.
