Jesus prayed for his disciples saying “May they be one, even as we are one.” What is it that makes disciples one? Each is given work tasks by God for building the whole body up in love. The Father gave His anointed one the task overall of building the living temple, just like famous king Solomon was tasked with building the material temple. A king who is pleasing to God as a son to the Father is characterised in promises made by God to King David and his descendants. Jesus came as such a descendant chosen and appointed by the Father to be the anointed one forever, and he pleased the Father as the Father’s true beloved son. Those believing disciples who believe in Jesus as light sent by God, and hold to his teachings and truth, are brought into the one body of all of these believers in all of time, and the Father unites them as one, just like the Father and Son are one. Each is sealed spiritually by the Holy Spirit, the same Spirit in each and every one, the same Spirit which raised Lord Jesus Christ from the dead and filled him with unsurpassed joy. It is a shared anointing.
