Christian Disciples: We have, if we want eternal life fellowship with God and with His Son, to learn to walk with the Holy Spirit. It is different at various times in life as we progress and might be closer when we serve God by doing tasks He gives to build His Temple, the Body of Christ. Sometimes we might find he interacts with us daily in small ways and now and then in bigger things, such as giving us a special message in a vision we must share with someone shortly afterwards. (Note: These interactions take different forms with different kinds of gifting, and not everyone is called to a ministry involving speaking or leading.) We must learn that this is for building up others but is also our great reward, as God described it to Abraham. We need to get used to these times of close interaction God has with us, and let it be like a friendship, like having a colleague working with us who is boss but also just wants to be there with us from time to time, sharing in the moments when God’s righteousness affects how we are living our lives. This is eternal life. To know the one true God and to know Jesus, the Christ He has sent. In fellowship like this we confess our sins more openly with each other as we have fellowship with each other that mirrors and complements this fellowship with God and His Son. To stay in this fellowship, we must hold to the teachings of Jesus, and learn not to rush ahead arrogantly. Then we will be happy in Jesus as we believe in him. Then we can save both ourselves and our hearers.
