"The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God"
http://biblehub.com/revelation/3-14.htm
The Apostle John knew and believed that Jesus pre-existed before all things and that is why Jesus is over all things. He received this from John the Baptist and the Holy Spirit. In his gospel he wrote: 'John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, "This is the one I was talking about when I said, 'Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.'"'
The 'beginning' of God's creation is the 'ruler' of God's creation.
