What place does scripture have as an authority for believers? It has a context-driven authority. Away from its original historic, cultural, and spiritual context in which it had particular authority, it is dangerous to expect it to be as fully authoritative. Half a century from now it will be even more irrelevant, since the resurrection will likely have happened, and a lot of what scripture says applies far less to the resurrected. There is, instead, a Holy Spirit bringing grace from the already resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. Furthermore, there is the ever enduring, ever relevant, ever authoritative faith and hope and love believers have even after resurrection. These can be a guiding factor in the here and now.
