2 John 1:9

I believe 2 John 1:9 suggests that if you lack God, you do not have the Father and the Son, and vice versa. This verse effectively equates the Father and the Son with the collective term 'God' or 'Divinity.' This is, in my view, the closest the New Testament comes to approaching a concept similar to the Trinity. However, in the New Testament, 'Divinity' often refers to divine elevation rather than a supreme being. The Father and the Son are portrayed as the highest beings, elevated by heavenly power. The Father is the Most High God. The Son is Jesus the Lord, forever to be subject to the Father, yet in turn all things (other than the Father) will be subjected by this Son. This elevation is a core aspect of what is called theos, El, God, or Divinity across different cultures and throughout history. Following the teachings of Christ elevates disciples through divine power, termed “theos” or Divinity. In the UK, the term 'Divinity' is used similarly in the academic context, such as in the Bachelor of Divinity (BD) degree, which precedes ordination in the clergy. In 2 John 1:9, 'Divinity' translates theos, not as 'Most High God,' which in Greek is usually expressed as “ho theos” (The God).
