Love and marriage

The spirit of Christ’s teachings is what we should live by. Love for our neighbour is the spirit of the commandments of God as taught by the Christ. It leads to self-denial and self-disciplined restraint. If we merely go by the letter of morality it says not to abuse. But living by the letter leaves room for abuse by proxy or by agency, and in the UK there are gangs taking advantage of the tendency we have here to merely keep the letter of morality and of our laws. We should recognise that the spirit of morality, its underlying intent, is that we neither abuse, nor suffer it be done by proxy or by agency of gangs on our behalf. We must change. Charitable love for our neighbour demands better. This is probably one reason God honours marriage. Even a marriage not quite right is still more honourable than living by abuse and immorality. God gives marriage to uphold morality among us. We too must honour it as God does: God who is the Father, who teaches charitable living by the spirit of what is right.
