Unity of many

Some Trinitarians and non-Trinitarians believe in a certain unity between the Father and the Son. Those who believe the Holy Spirit is a distinct personal being would possibly extend this unity to the Holy Spirit too. But for many, it ends there. Yet, it does not end there.

Jesus Christ died for the sins of the world, the sins of everyone. One died for all. The cross of Jesus Christ is thus the cross of all, and especially of all who are joined by faith and possibly by baptism to this sacrificial crucifixion. It is for all. Many accept that it is for them and become united with Jesus Christ through their acceptance of belonging to him, paid for by redemption through his blood. For these believers, there is a unity not only with him but with all others united with him, belonging to him, and bought by his blood.

The unity between the Father and the Son thus extends to many, many more than just two. The teachings of Jesus, given to him by the Father, mingle with all believers in a way that extends righteousness through Jesus Christ. The teaching is from heaven to all, ensuring that no lies are told by one to another because of this unity. All are one body. No lying is appropriate by one member of this body to another. Neither is murderous, unwarranted hatred appropriate. Righteousness stems from the truths of this unity. Forgiveness stems from the truths of being forgiven by the Father for Jesus’ sake.

Eternal life flows from this unity because Jesus Christ will raise his own from the dead at the Resurrection when he comes in power and glory. Not just two. Not just three. Many. Many are united. Many witnesses of the Father and the Son. Many living in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
