Many children of God

Looking at how the Book of Job describes the council of gods, sons of God, presided over by God Himself, these gods can be of various kinds of character, and even Satan is present there at times, petitioning God. This is the same description as is found in the Book of Genesis, and in Psalm 82. In the psalm, the description is taken further, as it shows a rebuking of these gods, the sons of the Most High God, because of their failing of the poor and weak. It seems God tells them they will have a demise like the death of mortal men. In the Gospel of John, Jesus Christ uses this psalm and this description of gods, sons of the Most High, as a context to his own sonship of God, to give context to his apparent divinity of claiming to be Son of God, in that he is set apart by God (consecrated, sanctified), and sent by God into the world. The Father, the Most High God, is described in the gospel accounts speaking of Jesus from heaven saying Jesus is His beloved Son, His chosen one, in whom He is well pleased. The contrast with Psalm 82, Job, Genesis sons of God is clear. Yet in all this Jesus is saying, as John in the Gospel narrative is saying, that Jesus coming, sent into the world by God, is in order to make more sons (children - not male only of course) for God, but pleasing, chosen, sanctified sons, who are, unlike those rebuked in Psalm 82, worthy of living eternally, without the demise spoken of in that psalm. It is not impossible, therefore, to see how this sonship, which is by learning God’s teachings from His Son, not a biological sonship, is akin to being like gods. This is because faith in God means answered prayers of immense nature, even of control of Nature by this faith, as the miracles of Jesus bore witness. Even greater things than those miracles become possible for the ones believing in Jesus, having faith in God which he teaches. In the Book of Revelation the final description is developed, as God gives revelation of it through Jesus, where the faithful archangels and elders (sons of God who did not fall) are surrounded by a huge multitude of sanctified humans. These will forever be there with the Father and the Son, when the Father is the One on the ultimate final throne, Jesus is there with Him, and the power and rule is shared with the ones who overcome.
