Independence of Father and Son

“In John 5:36, Jesus highlights that the works He performs are not simply miraculous acts but serve as a powerful and independent testimony from the Father, affirming Jesus' divine mission. He contrasts these works with the testimony of John the Baptist, stressing that the works the Father has given Him to finish carry greater weight, as they are direct manifestations of God's will. These works—such as healing the sick and raising the dead—are not random acts of power but purposeful signs, deliberately given by the Father to confirm Jesus' identity. This means that the Father, through these works, is offering His own distinct, independent testimony about Jesus. The logic here is critical: by invoking the Father’s works as His testimony, Jesus is asserting that the Father, as a separate and independent person from Himself, can genuinely provide testimony about Him. The Father’s testimony is not bound or limited by the essence of the Son, ensuring its validity as an independent witness. This is not a mutual testimony between two identical persons or beings whose relationship would compromise the impartiality of their testimony, but rather an endorsement from an independent, distinct person within the Godhead—God the Father—who freely and truthfully affirms Jesus' mission and identity. Therefore, the Father’s testimony about Jesus stands as a powerful, untainted confirmation of the truth, not influenced by any internal or essential connection that would undermine its authenticity. This reinforces the independence of the Father’s role as a witness and highlights the integrity of the testimony that points to Jesus as the Son sent to accomplish the Father’s will.” (ChatGPT, 2024)
