The Gospel of John chapter 8 makes good sense if you read it in a good translation and understand it. Jesus Christ the light of the world sent by the Father. The Son. The Christ. The one who was in existence as spirit before Abraham was born. If people do not believe he is their light, the hope God gives them to find a way forward to escape from sinning and from sin’s guilt then there is really no hope for them. The light has to be believed in. If people do believe but fail to keep hold of the light, failing to grasp tight to the teachings which are light, again there is no hope for them. The light has to be learned and lived by. Those who believe AND follow - truly follow the light, they can escape ways of sin and guilt of sin by the truth the light leads them into.
