A man was in serious trouble. Jesus healed him—but that alone wouldn’t address the deeper issue, the root cause of his condition. So Jesus said to him, “Stop sinning, or something worse may happen to you.”
Notice—there’s no elaborate theology in that statement.
No mention of being declared righteous in God’s sight.
No abstract assurance.
Instead, there’s a direct warning: if the man continued in sin, he would face consequences even worse than what he had already experienced.
This is how Jesus works.
He restores people—and then warns them, plainly and lovingly, so they stop the behavior that’s bringing them harm.
He doesn't cloud their understanding or offer comforting illusions.
He speaks truth, clearly and simply.
To be his disciple means to place yourself under his care—to be healed, corrected, and changed.
And as long as you keep following him, he keeps caring for you.
