Orbiting a new star

“Planets in distant solar systems each orbit their central stars—by the power of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Think of a planet in orbit around a star. Its orbit is under the law of the gravity of the star and itself. If it moved to the vicinity of another star, it could be pulled into that star’s orbit. Then it would escape the law of its former star. In belonging to Christ, baptised into his death and resurrection, we lose the law of our former life, a law binding us to sin and a future prospect of death, and we come into the law of a new rule, the rule of the Spirit given in the name of Jesus Christ. We become bound to the lordship of Jesus the Christ, with the prospect of eternal life in him. If you are in him, let this be the law of your life, the gravity between yourself and the Holy Spirit. You will then be in the same solar system with the Father and Son and with the other sons of God.
