In ancient history, but so relevant, Pontius Pilate had that cross made and on it posted the words:
JESUS OF NAZARETH
KING OF THE JEWS
Two crosses were important here. One with Jesus on it. The other next to it with a thief on it who believed the notice, that Jesus was king of the Jews, the Messiah. In cuneiform two cross symbols, Mash.Mash, meant exorcism, casting out of evils. One on its own meant goat sacrifice and settling of debt. Other words using the symbol meant mediation with the divine, priesthood. Coincidence?
