The five foolish maidens in the parable of the wedding by Jesus suggested we cannot assume he will come imminently and not also prepare for a long term wait. If the foolish girls had realised the groom might be some time, and that it might be that they will fall asleep when waiting for him, they would have prepared for it. They didn’t. The five wiser girls did prepare for a longer wait and a possibility of falling asleep. They took extra oil for their ceremony lamps just for this eventuality. Do not assume the doctrines you heard of an imminent Second Coming of Christ are the only possible way it will play out. It might be decades. You might die, proverbially falling asleep, before he comes. Prepare for this too. Do not be foolish. Do not get left outside of the coming celebratory feast.
