Follow Jesus

Following the actual teachings of Jesus is a challenge because they are truly spiritual, calling for a transformation of the heart rather than adherence to philosophical systems or human traditions. His words emphasize humility, love, mercy, and direct reliance on the Father, standing in contrast to the doctrines shaped by church fathers and councils, which were heavily influenced by Platonism and Stoicism. These philosophies, rooted in human reasoning, introduced ideas that often distorted Christ’s simple yet profound message, turning faith into an intellectual system rather than a lived relationship with God. While Jesus taught dependence on the Father, churches built hierarchical structures and complex doctrines that shifted focus away from His direct teachings. True discipleship means returning to Christ’s words themselves, embracing their spiritual depth rather than the worldly interpretations imposed by later traditions.

Following the actual teachings of Jesus is a challenging yet deeply rewarding journey. Many people make progress with the social aspects of His teachings—showing love, kindness, and compassion—but then falter when teachings reach into their wealth and challenge them to really help the poor. The key is to take it steady, doing what you can with the understanding, courage, and opportunity you have, and preparing to do more as your faith grows. Even the miraculous acts Jesus performed are part of His teachings, and with persistence, those who truly follow Him may experience working these miracles, and greater, too. It’s not always easy. The pressure to replace Jesus’ teachings with more worldly philosophies from church fathers and councils can be overwhelming. These doctrines, shaped by human reasoning, can distract from the genuinely transformative message of Christ. Yet, when you stick with the actual teachings of Jesus and His apostles, the rewards are immense. It’s not just about external successes but about an intimate, personal relationship with Christ—getting to meet Him, having Him stick with you as you stick with him, and even, as promised, having the Father showing you Himself and sticking with you. The challenge is great, but overcoming and staying true to His words brings profound, eternal rewards.
