Sadducees wanted to reject all written and spoken prophecy. Pharisees wanted to pick and choose. Eventually they made a canon list of what they picked out to keep. Official churches largely followed that Pharisee tradition, even using the same list and calling it the Old Testament. Ethiopian Orthodox have a more accepting and embracing approach to scripture. Jesus and his original apostles, leading disciples, brother Jude, and Paul, were all accepting of the wide range of holy scriptures known in their time, quoting and preaching it all as scripture. The Holy Spirit points to this latter tradition, while making use of the Bible we have passed down to us too. Be sure, said Jesus, the light within you is not darkness. The true scriptures affirm the overall truth of God. We know this truth by keeping the teachings of Jesus while believing he is the light of the world sent by God.
