It is Jesus who above all people, through all of history, is the light of the world. Moses had been this to some extent, mainly among Israelites, but influencing others around. Solomon influenced many surrounding nations too with his wisdom. Today, although many are no longer even sure these people existed, their teachings remain, especially in scriptures. Jesus is light of the world, even today, and his true disciples are still teaching his commands. Jesus described the experiences of a rich man, and a poor beggar named Lazarus, in the afterlife. The beggar was comforted. The rich man who had ignored the social needs of the beggar when alive, was in agony in the afterlife after death. He asked to be allowed to return to life to warn people. He was told the people already had the scripture. They had the commandments of God and if they ignored those, then a resurrected man would be ignored too. We already know about the need to care socially. The Moses and Prophets scriptures tell us, and so does Jesus. We ignore it at our peril. It is vital, especially in regard to the afterlife. This is the kind of light we can find in teachings of Jesus. We need to know about how to live wisely, in view of our continued existence even after death, which of all people, Jesus taught about. The Holy Spirit tells many these things too, or guides towards scriptures about them and good preaching about them. It is all part of the light brought to the world by Jesus. The Father, the Father of Jesus, tells us this is His Son, and to listen to him.
